Ahmed Zaki, Secretary-General of the Exporters Division of the General Federation of Chambers of Commerce, confirmed that the Chinese government’s announcement to study exempting Egyptian exports from customs duties is an unprecedented step that reflects the depth of the strong and strategic relations between Cairo and Beijing.

Zaki explained in a statement that the expansion of the project “Chinese TEDA“The Suez Canal Economic Zone comes within the framework of a strategic partnership based on trade and investment, noting that China is Egypt’s largest trading partner.

He added that the volume of trade exchange between the two countries exceeded $17 billion during the year 2024, an increase of 10% over the previous year, although these numbers do not reflect the real potential of joint cooperation.

Zaki pointed out that the number of companies with Chinese contributions in Egypt reached about 2,800 companies, with total direct investments estimated at about $1.2 billion, distributed across multiple sectors including fiberglass manufacturing, home appliances, textiles, food industries, and animal feed.

He stressed that the Chinese decision would gradually improve the balance of trade in favor of Egypt, but more importantly, it would contribute to increasing dollar investment flows and enhancing exports in the long term.

Zaki called for developing a clear plan for the next five years to increase exports, in parallel with expanding industrial investments and transferring Chinese factories to Egypt to benefit from the trade agreements linking Egypt with African, Arab and European countries.

He stressed that Egypt enjoys attractive investment elements, most notably security stability, a clear legislative framework, advanced infrastructure, and qualified labor, which makes it a distinguished gateway to accessing regional and global markets.

Zaki stressed that Egypt is taking steady steps in implementing the economic reform program, and that the Egyptian economy is moving in the right direction despite the challenges, and shows a clear ability to withstand global crises.
