The Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism commented on the announcement of the British government, headed by Keir Starmer, to allocate an additional 10 million pounds to enhance the security of mosques and Islamic centers throughout the United Kingdom, to confront the escalation of Islamophobic incidents and hate crimes, stressing that it is a rapid response to demands for equality in security funding for religious communities.
Al-Azhar Observatory explained that this announcement comes one week after the government allocated a similar amount (10 million pounds sterling) to protect facilities belonging to the Jewish community following the Manchester terrorist attack. The demands for equality came after statistics were revealed showing that Muslims make up about 45% of the victims of religious crimes in the country, and Prime Minister Starmer stated, after his visit to the Peacehaven Mosque that was subjected to an arson attack, that this new funding will ensure Muslim communities “the protection they need and deserve.”

This funding is part of a new plan called the “Plan for Change” by the government, with the aim of extending security to the streets of Britain so that everyone can enjoy it, according to what was stated in a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.
The Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism praised the British response, considering it “praiseworthy and quick” to achieve equal protection for all citizens and their religious institutions without discrimination.
