A call directed to all Muslims, to fear God Almighty as He is feared, and to beware of the causes of His wrath and revenge, and to know that nothing is hidden from God, He knows our secrets and our outspokenness, and He knows our movements and actions, and the words and deeds that come from us. So we strive to be sincere in our work for God, and to strive for honesty in our words, and to fulfill our trusts, as God Almighty has commanded us, and to speak the truth, when we speak it, and to give testimonies as we have learned and verified, and do not subtract or add to what we have taught, for whoever omits anything has concealed the testimony, and God says regarding concealing it: “And whoever conceals it is a sinner.” His heart,” “Surat Al-Baqarah: 283.”
False testimony is a major sin: a reason for the wrath of the Almighty, Glory be to Him, and for its perpetrator to enter Hell, a reason for the loss of people’s rights and injustice, and a reason for sowing hatred in hearts. It erases the features of justice, fairness, and truth, helps the oppressor in his injustice, and gives rights to those who do not deserve them. The strict prohibition against it came in the Book of our Lord and the Sunnah of our Prophet – may God bless him and grant him peace – because of the harm and corruption it causes to societies and individuals, which God – Glory be to Him and Most High – associated with the worship of idols, so He said: “So avoid the abomination of idols.” And avoid false speech,” Surat Al-Hajj: 30.
And He – Glory be to Him – exalted the believing men and women from false speech, and made among their most prominent characteristics: staying away from false speech and false testimony, so He said: “And those who do not bear witness to falsehood, and when they pass by idle talk, they pass by with honor.” Surat Al-Furqan: 72, and Al-Bukhari narrated And Muslim – in their two Sahihs – on the authority of Abdul Rahman bin Abi Bakra – may God be pleased with him – said: The Messenger of God – may God bless him and his family and grant them peace – said: “Do not Shall I inform you of the greatest of the sins – three -?” We said: Yes, O Messenger of God. He was reclining and sat up, so he said: “Associating partners with God and being disobedient to one’s parents. And false speech, and false witness.” He said: He kept repeating it until we said: I wish he had kept silent.
False testimony is only for the sake of temporary desire. Either to obtain money, fame, or a piece of land with a false claim for the sake of a relative or tribesman; Some even reached the point of standing at the doors of the courts, ready to bear false witness and give it. He may even have sworn on her; The false witness does not know that he is a sinner in the eyes of the one against whom he testified. Because he knows that he is a liar, a traitor in his testimony, devoid of morals and religion, who has sold his conscience for the offer of this world, and trampled on his dignity, manhood, and reputation to please those who testified for him.
The one who bore false witness has committed himself to sins, and has wronged both parties. He has wronged the person witnessed against, oppressed him and defeated him with falsehood, encroached upon him, deprived him of his rights, corrupted his society, wronged the person witnessed by helping him to eat forbidden things, and wronged the people. He disobeyed God’s command in His saying, Glory be to Him: “And cooperate in righteousness and piety, and do not Cooperate in sin and transgression,” “Surat Al-Ma’idah: 2.”
A false witness causes the ruler or judge to err in ruling and issue a ruling that is contrary to reality. By doing this, the false witness changed God’s judgment and deserved God’s loathing and wrath.
The false witness and the one who is accused of falsehood cooperate in falsehood, cooperate in sin and transgression, argue falsehood in this worldly life on the basis of immoral wealth that the one who eats it may enjoy and soon perish. He may be punished by deprivation of it, and it will be a cause of his own destruction, or the destruction of his wealth, or the destruction of his children, or his family.
God Almighty has praised those who do not bear witness to falsehood, and do not attend gatherings of idle talk and immorality. They abstain from everything that defiles their religions and their honor, and watch God in their secrets and revelations. God Almighty said: “And those who do not bear witness to falsehood, and when they pass by idle talk, they pass by with honor.” “Surat Al-Furqan: 72.”
Let us know that life has limited days and limited breaths, so why should a Muslim involve himself in major sins and misdeeds? He does not know, perhaps today or tomorrow he will leave this house and be alone with himself, having no companion except his good deeds, if he had good deeds. Otherwise, his bad deeds will make him lonely in his grave, and then what he has accumulated and what it has produced will not benefit him, and no repentance or excuse will be accepted from him.
I seek refuge in God from the accursed Satan: “And do not refrain from that of which you have no knowledge. Indeed, hearing, sight, and the heart are all of these about which one will be questioned,” Surah Al-Isra: 36.
