US President Donald Trump plans to hold a summit of world leaders on Gaza during his visit to Egypt next week, according to what the American news agency Axios reported, citing four informed sources.
According to the agency, the summit aims to mobilize additional international support for the US peace plan for the Gaza Strip, as there are still major challenges related to post-war arrangements, security, and the reconstruction process.
Sources indicate that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is organizing the summit, and has made contact with a number of European and Arab leaders to invite them to participate.
Leaders or foreign ministers from Germany, France, Britain, Italy, Qatar, the UAE, Jordan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Indonesia are expected to attend the summit.
An American official reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will not attend the summit at the present time.
Trump is scheduled to arrive in Israel on Monday morning, where he will deliver a speech before the Knesset and meet with the families of detainees.
Later, he will go to Egypt to meet President Sisi and participate in the signing ceremony of the Gaza Peace Agreement alongside representatives of the guarantor countries: Egypt, Qatar and Turkey.
The summit is likely to be held on Tuesday morning in Sharm El-Sheikh, with the possibility of moving it to Monday, according to the sources.
