After more than 18 months of siege and continuous fighting, the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan announced their full control over the headquarters of the Sixth Division of the Sudanese army in the city of El Fasherthe capital of North Darfur state, is the last strategic army location in the city.
Field reports confirmed that control came after violent battles in which heavy weapons and drones were used, which led to a mass displacement of the civilian population and the destruction of large parts of the city’s infrastructure.

Sources in Reuters and Sky News Arabia reported that dozens of Sudanese army soldiers were captured after the collapse of the last defense lines in El Fasher, while the Rapid Support Forces continue to pursue the remnants of the army on the outskirts of the city and the Jebel Marra areas.
For its part, the Sudanese Army Command did not issue an official statement about the fate of the forces stationed in the city until yesterday evening.
Wide political and security repercussions
Observers believe that the fall of El Fasher constitutes a strategic shift in the course of the war, as the Rapid Support Forces now effectively control most of the cities in the Darfur region.
It is also feared that this will exacerbate the ethnic conflict in the region, especially after reports circulated of incidents of revenge and widespread arrests in the city after the Rapid Support took control of it.
The United Nations warned that the collapse of the security situation in El Fasher would cut off the only remaining aid artery to Darfur, which could exacerbate the crisis of hunger and displacement affecting millions of Sudanese.
It called for the immediate opening of safe humanitarian corridors and a ceasefire to avoid a new humanitarian catastrophe in western Sudan.
