President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received, today in Sharm El-Sheikh, Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of the Italian Republic, on the sidelines of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, in the presence of Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptians Abroad, and Major General Hassan Rashad, Director of General Intelligence.
The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic stated that the President praised during the meeting the development witnessed by the distinguished relations between Egypt and Italy, stressing the importance of continuing to strengthen aspects of bilateral relations in various fields, including political, commercial and economic, in addition to increasing joint cooperation in the sectors of energy, agriculture, construction, tourism, and other areas of mutual interest. During the meeting, ways to increase trade ties between the two countries and facilitate communication between the business community and the private sector in Egypt and Italy were also discussed. For her part, the Italian Prime Minister welcomed the growing joint cooperation between the two countries in various sectors, noting the importance of continuing to build on the current development in bilateral relations.

Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesman, added that the meeting dealt with a number of regional issues, as the Italian Prime Minister expressed her appreciation for Egypt’s pivotal role in facilitating reaching an agreement to stop the war in the Gaza Strip, noting her country’s full support for all efforts aimed at achieving stability in the region. In this regard, the President stressed the importance of the ceasefire agreement as it culminates the tireless efforts made by Egypt, in cooperation with the State of Qatar and the United States of America, for two years in order to end the humanitarian catastrophe that the Gaza Strip is going through. He pointed out the importance of the agreement in ending the state of war, increasing the entry of humanitarian and relief aid, releasing hostages and prisoners, preparing the way for the rapid reconstruction of the Strip, and providing a political horizon that leads to establishing An independent Palestinian state in accordance with the decisions of international legitimacy.
The official spokesman indicated that the meeting also dealt with the emphasis on Italy’s support for Egypt within the framework of the European Union, and in this regard, the aspiration was expressed for the success of the Egyptian-European meeting, which will be held in Brussels on October 22, 2025.
