Today, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, during which developments in the situation in the Middle East were discussed, especially the agreement reached in Sharm El-Sheikh regarding stopping the war in the Gaza Strip.

The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic, Mohamed El-Shenawy, stated that the call dealt with the latest developments in the Middle East region, most notably the agreement reached in Sharm El-Sheikh regarding stopping the war in the Gaza Strip. The Cypriot President expressed his country’s full welcome of this agreement, stressing Cyprus’ support for its implementation, and praising the vital role played by Egypt, and the personal efforts of Mr. President in facilitating reaching it.

El-Shenawy explained that President Sisi reviewed the most prominent provisions of the agreement, stressing the importance of its full implementation in a way that ensures stopping the war, securing the entry of humanitarian aid, and launching the reconstruction process. He also called for the deployment of international forces in the Strip and granting the agreement international legitimacy through the Security Council.

El-Shenawy pointed out that President Sisi invited his Cypriot counterpart to participate in an Egyptian celebration on the occasion of the signing of the agreement. He also expressed his intention to host an international conference for early recovery and reconstruction, which was welcomed by the Cypriot side.

He added that the call also touched on bilateral relations between the two countries, as the two presidents discussed ways to enhance cooperation in the political, economic and investment fields, and build on the results of the Egyptian-Cypriot summit held in January 2025, while President Christodoulides affirmed his country’s continued support for Egypt’s positions within the European Union.
