Salmaniya Medical Complex announced its success in performing the first surgery using the HOLEP technique, in an advanced medical achievement that is recorded as a qualitative step in the field of urological surgeries in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Dr. confirmed. Hazem Al-Aali, Head of Medical Services for Surgical Departments, said that performing this operation for the first time in the complex reflects the level of development witnessed by the health sector in the Kingdom, and the advanced equipment that has been provided. He added that the introduction of the HOLEP technique will contribute to reducing the period of stay of patients in the hospital, accelerating the pace of recovery, and reducing complication rates compared to traditional methods.
For his part, Dr. Hussein Al-Aradi, urology consultant and head of the medical team supervising the operation, explained that the team was able to remove prostate enlargement using a laser with high accuracy and without the need for open surgery.
He pointed out that the case that was dealt with was rare, due to the large size of the prostate, which often requires open surgery or permanent reliance on a urinary catheter, but the medical team succeeded in treating it using this advanced technique.
He added that the patient was suffering from kidney failure resulting from prostate obstruction, and was dependent on a urinary catheter, but the operation led to a noticeable improvement in his condition, as he regained kidney function and was able to urinate normally without the need for a catheter, which reflected positively on his quality of life.
The HOLEP technology is considered one of the latest findings in prostate surgery globally, and represents a qualitative shift in patient care by reducing recovery time and improving quality of life.
