Al-Ayyam newspaper editor-in-chief Rashid Al-Hamar explained that the new press law provides many guarantees for journalists, as it abolishes the prison sentence against them and replaces it with financial fines only, which reflects a more open approach.

He said that the law allows the establishment of new electronic media platforms, and reflects a contemporary and enlightened vision that aims to advance Bahraini media to advanced levels. He pointed out that his participation in the Shura Council session that was held yesterday in the presence of the Minister of Information, Dr. Ramzan Al Nuaimi, a number of editors-in-chief of local newspapers, and the head of the Journalists Association, had an opportunity to research the new press law.

He stressed that the lengthy session resulted in unanimous approval of the law by the Shura Council, to be transferred to the final stage before its approval by His Majesty the King.

He expressed his optimism that this law would contribute to developing the media environment in the Kingdom by integrating the latest technological technologies. He also thanked the members of the House of Representatives and the Shura Council, and the esteemed government for their great support, which resulted in agreement on a law that meets the aspirations of the journalistic family in Bahrain.

At the conclusion of his speech, Al-Hamar extended his warmest congratulations and blessings to His Majesty the King, noting the royal reference to this law in the opening speech of the session, and congratulating the press family as a whole on this important achievement that represents a historic step for the media in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
