A US appeals court has ruled that US National Guard troops sent by US President Donald Trump to Illinois can remain in the state and under federal control, but cannot be deployed to protect federal property or patrol at this time.

This decision comes after Federal Judge April Perry ruled last Thursday to temporarily halt the deployment of the National Guard for at least two weeks, finding that there is no substantive evidence that there is a “risk of insurrection” developing in Illinois during Trump’s crackdown on immigration.
On Saturday, the Court of Appeal granted a temporary stay in the case until it could hear further defenses.
