A source within the Ethics Committee of the Egyptian Olympic Committee revealed the latest developments in the investigation file into the crisis between table tennis players Omar Asr and Mahmoud Ashraf, after the last investigation session on Thursday.
The reason why the Olympic Ethics Committee did not announce the results of the investigation into the two-table crisis
Last Thursday, the first investigation session was held with the table tennis duo, where the statements of the duo, Omar Asr and Mahmoud Ashraf Helmy, were heard via Zoom, in addition to listening to the statements of the national team’s coach, the players, and the head of the mission to become familiar with all matters of the case, while the committee decided at that time to meet on Sunday in order to deliberate before announcing the final decision and deciding the result of the investigation.
The source explained to Cairo 24 that it was scheduled to meet today, Sunday, to discuss the two-table crisis, before issuing the final decision, but it was postponed.
The source revealed that the reason behind the committee not meeting was the travel of Yasser Idris, Chairman of the Olympic Committee, and Major General Hazem Hosni, Secretary-General of the Committee, who were scheduled to attend the deliberative session, which caused the meeting to be postponed to a later time to be determined after their return.
Earlier, the Ethics Committee, headed by Major General Sherif El Gomati, Chairman of the Committee and Treasurer of the Olympic Committee, held an investigation session with the duo and their coach last Thursday, in the presence of Ahmed El Gendy and Mohamed Alaa Luca, representatives of the Players Affairs Committee of the Olympic Committee.
