The quarterly report issued by the Ministry of Finance and National Economy confirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain continues to implement infrastructure projects within the main sectors during the second quarter of 2025, most notably the project to develop the Jasra Bridge intersection, which opened recently, and the project to build a bridge linking Sheikh Isa bin Salman Street to Street 105 in Busaiteen, with the completion of the two projects by 2026, and the launch of the first solar power station in the Kingdom to provide electricity. The report indicated Bahrain’s commitment to developing the main road network, with the Ministry of Public Works implementing a group of strategic projects aimed at strengthening regional connectivity, increasing the carrying capacity to improve traffic movement, and the recent completion of the Al Jasra Bridge Interchange development project in September 2025, with a length of 884 meters and increasing the capacity of the intersection by 33%.
Work is also underway to implement several major projects, including the North Isa Town Interchange Development Project and the construction of a bridge linking Sheikh Isa bin Salman Street to Street 105 in the Busaiteen area. Both projects are expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
In the information technology and communications sector, STC Bahrain successfully completed in June 2025 the process of landing the Pearls Africa2 submarine cable, which is the longest submarine system in the world with a length of 45,000 kilometers. It represents a major international path for data transfer, and supports data centers, cloud services, and technological investments. The cost of the project amounted to about $205 million, which enhances the position of the Kingdom of Bahrain. As a regional center for technology and investment.
Regarding the energy and water infrastructure, the Electricity and Water Authority launched an international tender to develop and implement the project to establish the Sitra Independent Power and Water Production Plant, in a strategic partnership with the private sector on the basis of establishing, owning and operating the plant using the BOO system.
The plant is expected to produce up to 1,500 megawatts of electricity and 30 million gallons of potable water per day using low-emission technologies.
Construction work is underway, and operation is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2028 and be fully completed by the second quarter of 2029. This project will contribute to enhancing energy security, reducing dependence on gas, and meeting the growing demand in the residential, industrial, and commercial sectors.
The report touched on the launch of the first solar power station in the Kingdom in the Blaj Al-Jazair region in August 2025, in partnership with the private sector. The station covers an area of 1.2 square kilometers, and has a production capacity of up to 150 megawatts, sufficient to provide electricity to about 6,300 homes, while reducing annual carbon emissions by more than 100,000 tons, thereby contributing to achieving Bahrain’s goals in the field of renewable energy and access. To zero neutrality by 2060, a coalition of consulting companies was appointed to oversee the development of the project until the expected start of operation in the third quarter of 2027.
The report explained that the Bahrain Real Estate Investment Company “Edamah” is continuing to implement a number of vital projects in the Blaj Al-Jazair area, including the establishment of the Bahrain Surf Park, and the development of luxury hotels and residences bearing international brands, with investments exceeding 95 million dinars, which contributes to strengthening the tourism and entertainment infrastructure and supporting Bahrain’s position as a distinguished tourist destination.
The Bahrain Surf Park – Club Hawaiian Experience project is the first of its kind in the Middle East. It covers an area of 50,000 square metres, and includes the latest wave generation technologies to provide a world-class surfing experience. It is expected that the park will attract about 300,000 visitors annually, as the project will include a distinctive group of restaurants and cafes, private suites (cabins), and a surfing academy, in addition to spaces designated for holding events. Construction work on the project, which costs 33 million dinars, began in the second quarter of 2025 and will be completed in the third quarter of 2026.
As for the Tivoli and Avani Hotels project, it is part of the Plage Algiers development plan, which includes two luxury hotels and three residential buildings bearing the two international brands. The project extends over an area of 19,684 square metres, and includes 204 hotel rooms and 147 hotel apartments, in addition to upscale restaurants, health facilities, and entertainment spaces designated for families. The total cost of the project is 58 million Bahraini dinars, and is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2026.
