As the anticipated opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum approaches next Saturday, the exhibition halls shine with one of the rarest and most beautiful artifacts discovered recently, which is a golden mummy cover of a ruler from the Saqqara region dating back to the era of the Old Kingdom, which reflects the genius of the ancient Egyptian artist and his precision in formulating the features of kings in the language of gold.
Gold cover of an ancient ruler
An archaeological source revealed to Cairo 24 that the artifact arrived at the Grand Egyptian Museum years ago, and was included in a precise restoration plan according to a well-studied timetable, to ensure that every piece comes out of the laboratories in its best condition for display before the global public at the awaited moment of opening.
The source explained that the golden cover belongs to the ruler of the cemetery, Haka Umm Saf, and it was found inside his tomb in the Saqqara region, noting that the piece was placed on top of the mummy after mummification and before it was placed inside the coffin, to embody the features of its owner in the most beautiful way through gold, which symbolizes immortality and eternity in ancient Egyptian belief.
