Only a few hours passed after the Israeli government approved the list of Palestinian prisoners expected to be released under the Gaza ceasefire agreement, and the Israeli Ministry of Justice published the names in detail.
On Friday, the Ministry published a list containing the names of 250 Palestinians expected to be released within the framework of the exchange agreement with Hamas in exchange for Israelis detained in Gaza.
Barghouti, Saadat, and Salama
However, this list did not include the names of a number of prominent Palestinian leaders whose release Hamas demanded, such as Fatah leader Marwan Barghouti, the Secretary-General of the Popular Front organization, Ahmed Saadat, as well as the Hamas leader Hassan Salama.
The Israeli government spokeswoman, Shosh Bedrosian, confirmed yesterday that the famous Fatah leader Marwan Barghouti will not be among those released.
Meanwhile, Israeli sources revealed that the bodies of former Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and his brother Muhammad, who was killed last May, will not be included in the exchange deal, according to what was reported by the official Israeli Broadcasting Corporation.
Note that Hamas had demanded during the negotiations the release of important figures, including Marwan Barghouti, as well as the movement’s leader Abdullah Barghouti, Ibrahim Hamed, Hassan Salama, and Abbas Al-Sayyid, in addition to Saadat.
It is noteworthy that the publication of this list today came as the 72-hour deadline set in the Gaza Agreement began for the exchange of prisoners between Israel and Hamas, after the Israeli army finished repositioning itself in the devastated Palestinian Strip, as a result of two years of bloody war.
