Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni said on Tuesday that there was a lawsuit against her with two ministers in the government before the International Criminal Court for collusion in the “genocide” associated with the Israeli attack on Gaza.
In an interview with the government television network “Ray”, Meloni added that the lawsuit is also targeting defense ministers Guido Cruzeito and Foreign Ministry Antonio Taiani.
She pointed to her “belief” that Roberto Singolani, head of the Leonardo defense group, will face a trial as well.
“I do not think that there is another case like this in the world or in history,” she added.
There were no details about the identity of the person who filed the lawsuit against it and the two ministers.
Meloni expressed her “amazement” of her accusation of collusion in genocide, because “anyone familiar with the situation realizes that Italy did not authorize the supply of new weapons to Israel after October 7.”
In response to her remarks, a spokesman for Leonardo said that Singolani had previously expressed the company’s position in an interview with the newspaper “Corriere della Sera” last month, when he described the hint of the company’s involvement in the genocide as “a very serious accusation fabrication.”
Italy witnessed demonstrations during the past week, in which hundreds of thousands went out to the streets in protest against the operations of the Israeli army in Gaza, amid many criticism of Meloni by the demonstrators.
Its right -wing government, who is strongly supporting Israel, has recently distanced what she described as a “non -proportional” attack on Gaza, but she did not cut any trade or diplomatic relations with Israel, and she did not recognize a Palestinian state.
The Israeli attack on Gaza began after gunmen from Hamas launched an attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, indicating Israeli statistics that it had killed about 1,200 people and detained 251 hostages.
In Gaza, health officials say that the Israeli military campaign against the Strip has since killed more than 67,000.
