A fiery history precedes the Pyramids summit and Berkane’s renaissance in the African Super Cup

Historically, the balance is clearly tilted in favor of Egyptian clubs when they face their Moroccan counterparts in the African Super Cup, as the two sides have met on four previous occasions, all of which were decided by the Egyptian teams.

The beginning was in 2003, when Zamalek beat Wydad by three goals to one, then Al-Ahly beat the Royal Moroccan Army on penalties in the 2006 edition after the end of regular time in a draw.

Al-Ahly returned to confirm the superiority of the Egyptian clubs in 2020 when it defeated RS Berkane with two unanswered goals, before repeating its superiority in 2021 over Moroccan Raja on penalties after a draw in regular time.

In general, Egypt holds the record for the number of times crowned with the African Super Cup, with 13 titles, including 8 titles for Al-Ahly and 5 for Zamalek. As for the Moroccan clubs, they collected 5 titles, with two titles for Raja, and one title each for Moghreb Fes, Wydad, and Nahdet Berkane.

The upcoming confrontation carries a special character, as it not only represents a struggle between the Champions League champion and the Confederation champion, but also represents a new station in the history of the Egyptian-Moroccan competition for continental titles.

Pyramids, for its part, hopes to win the first Super Cup in its history, to confirm its worth at the top of Africa this season, while Nahdet Berkane looks forward to repeating the achievement of 2020 and returning the debt against a new Egyptian team.
