The number of victims of a motorcycle accident carrying a number of students overturned at a water bank in Assiut rose to 3 deaths, following the death of 2 of the injured in the hospital.
High number of victims
A resident of the village of Manqabad in Assiut said that the village had recently received news of the death of two of those injured in the accident, both of whom were felonies. E. A, 8 years old, and Basmala. A. A., 9 years old, and burial permits are being obtained to carry the bodies to their final resting place.
Major General Dr. Hisham Abu Al-Nasr, Governor of Assiut, followed, from the first moments, the accident of a motorcycle carrying a number of children falling into the Hawass Barrage drain in front of the entrance to Salam village, affiliated with the village of Manqabad in Assiut center, and directed to raise the level of preparedness of all executive agencies and concerned authorities, and quickly deal with the situation and rescue the injured.
The Governorate’s Operations and Crisis Management Room had received notification that a motorcycle carrying a number of children had fallen into a water drain. River rescue forces, ambulances, and executive and security agencies immediately moved to the site of the accident. Rescue efforts were able to save 10 children and transport them to Assiut University Hospital and Assiut General Hospital to receive the necessary aid, while searches are still ongoing for others.
The Governor of Assiut confirmed that he is following the situation moment by moment, stressing the need to provide urgent medical care to the injured. He also directed the presence of relief teams affiliated with the Social Solidarity Directorate at the scene of the accident and hospitals to provide all aspects of support to the injured. He also directed river rescue teams to be present at the bank until it is confirmed that there are no missing persons, while keeping the operating room informed of current developments.
The governor also issued his directives to review means of transportation and ensure their legal and technical safety, in order to preserve the lives and safety of our children, stressing that the state is sparing no effort in confronting such accidents and taking the necessary measures to prevent their recurrence.
Major General Dr. Hisham Abu Al-Nasr explained that preliminary investigations indicate that the bicycle was out of balance while driving and fell into the drain, and the examination is being completed by the security authorities to find out the circumstances of the incident and take legal measures regarding it.
The Governor of Assiut stressed that the priority at the present time is to rescue children and provide care for them, thanking the rescue and ambulance teams that dealt quickly and efficiently with the accident, praying to God to protect the people of the governorate from all harm.
