The total government aid provided by the Ministry of Social Development during the past year amounted to approximately 24 million dinars, of which family aid accounted for 40% of the total government aid, with a total of 9.5 million dinars, followed by aid for the elderly by 27%, with a total of 6.49 million dinars, and aid for the disabled came at the end of the list with a percentage of 0.5%, and a total of 122 thousand dinars.
The number of beneficiaries of social care during the past year reached 531 beneficiaries, including 234 females and 297 males, distributed among the Academic and Vocational Rehabilitation Center, the Social Welfare House, the Muharraq Social Welfare Center, the National Bank of Bahrain Children’s Rehabilitation House, the Child Day Care Center, and the Karama House for Social Welfare. The largest number of male beneficiaries of social welfare was in the “beggars” category at Dar Al Karama Social Welfare, with a total of 206 people, including 119 males and 87 females, and in Child Welfare there were 55 beneficiaries, both male and female.
The number of families benefiting from social care reached 17,551 families. The largest category was the family category, with a total of 5,513 families, followed by the elderly category, with a total of 5,382 families. The category of families of prisoners came at the bottom of the list with 51 families, while the rest of the categories were distributed among families of the disabled, the widow, the unmarried girl, the incapable of work, the orphans, the abandoned, and the boy.
