A recent report issued by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) showed detailed statistics on the rates of carbon emissions in the Arab countries, where the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia came at the top of the highest emission countries, while the Kingdom of Bahrain recorded low rates compared to the rest of the countries.
According to the report, Saudi Arabia topped the list with a rate of 712.59 million tons of carbon dioxide, followed by Egypt with 299.78 million tons, then Algeria with 266.7 million tons, and Iraq with 261.29 million tons, while the UAE recorded 249.93 million tons.
The report indicated that Kuwait came at a rate of 135.9 million tons, followed by Qatar with 119.6 million tons, Sudan with 107.11 million tons, then the Sultanate of Oman with 95.08 million tons, and Morocco with 88.03 million tons, and Libya with 75.37 million tons.
As for Bahrain, it has recorded the rate of emissions of 54.15 million tons of carbon dioxide, which places it within the relatively low Arab countries compared to the rest of the countries.
On the other hand, other countries also came at low levels such as Syria with 47.11 million tons, Tunisia with 40.88 million tons, Jordan with 33.15 million tons, Lebanon with 28.95 million tons, and finally Yemen with 24.39 million tons.
The report pointed out that the high rates of emissions are related to the great consumption of energy and industry, while low rates reflect progress in sustainability and environmental protection policies.
The Kingdom of Bahrain seeks to preserve low levels of carbon emissions, through a balance between economic growth and the preservation of the environment, as the Kingdom announced a strategic goal of reaching zero neutrality by 2060, by adopting renewable energy projects, enhancing energy efficiency, and relying on environmental innovation.
This trend is evidence of Bahrain’s commitment to its regional and international role in facing climate change, and reflects its ambitious vision towards a sustainable future that guarantees a clean environment for future generations.
