US President Donald Trump has threatened that severe consequences will face Afghanistan if the United States no longer control the Baramram Air Force Base, refusing to exclude the possibility of sending American forces to recover them.
Trump and re -control the Base Base
Trump said in a post on the Truth Suusal platform, that if Afghanistan does not promise the base to those who created it, that is, the United States, bad things will happen, as he later explained to reporters that he is talking to Afghanistan in this regard, noting that Washington wanted to restore the base as soon as possible.
The American forces withdrew from Afghanistan in 2021, leaving their rules that were soon seized by the Taliban, which led to the fall of the US -backed government in Kabul, and since then, Afghan officials have expressed their rejection of any return to the American military presence.
In Washington, within the reactions to Trump’s statements, current and previous US officials warned that restoring control of the Basem base may be seen as a re -invasion of the country, which requires the deployment of more than ten thousand soldiers in addition to advanced air defense systems.
The Basem Base is one of the most prominent former US military bases in Afghanistan in two decades of war that followed the September 11, 2001 attacks. Al Qaeda included time for fast food restaurants and stores, along with a huge prison.
Experts believe that restarting the base will require huge human resources to secure and operate it, and even if the Taliban accepts an American return after negotiations, the base will remain vulnerable to threats from the Islamic State and Al Qaeda inside Afghanistan, as well as the possibility of being subjected to advanced missile attacks from Iran.
Despite Trump’s insistence on restoring the base, he avoided answering directly to a question about the possibility of sending American forces, contenting with saying that Washington wants it immediately, and if it does not happen, everyone will know what to do.
