The French presidency announced that ten countries, including France, Britain, Canada and Australia, will officially announce the recognition of the State of Palestine, during an international conference held today in New York, on the sidelines of the meetings of the eighties of the United Nations General Assembly.
A counselor of French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed that the ten countries participating in the conference are: France, Britain, Australia, Canada, Belgium, Luxembourg, Portugal, Malta, Andora, and San Marino.
The French official stated that President Macron will deliver a speech at the conference, scheduled for three o’clock in the afternoon of New York time, during which he will officially announce the recognition of France in the State of Palestine.
The deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip
This declaration comes in light of the escalation of tensions in the Middle East, and the continued deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, which sparked angry reactions from Israel, which considered the move as a “reward for Hamas” over the attack it launched on Israel in October 2023, according to the expression of Israeli government sources.
This upcoming collective recognition is seen as an important diplomatic development in the context of supporting the two -state solution, and strengthening Palestinian demands for a full international recognition of their independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
