Dr. Sherif Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, denied the existence of an intention to raise the price of supply sugar of 12.60 pounds per kilogram, saying: What is reported about this is not disciplined, for several reasons, including that Egypt did not import sugar this year, unlike last year, which witnessed a gap of 800 thousand tons.
He added, during televised comments with the media, Lamis Al -Hadidi,: We have a self -sugar sufficiency, and we have a reserve that covers a whole year.
The Minister of Supply: There is no intention to raise the price of catering sugar, and we achieved self -sufficiency this year and we did not import
He pointed out that the price of sugar in the free market ranges between 30 to 35 pounds, so I interrupted it, asking: “The difference between the price of food sugar and its price in the free market. Will this support be continued, or is there a tendency to move the price?”
Farouk replies: Support is not only a minor on sugar, and there is no intention to increase prices. But we must see the citizen who gets 150 loaves per month, in addition to 50 pounds that helps him buy an oil bottle, a sugar bag and a bag of pasta.
He added: Comparing those commodities – unlike sugar – at their prices in the free market, we will find that they are much higher. With these fifty pounds, the citizen actually gets the real value of 103 pounds.
At the end of his speech, the Minister of Supply stressed that: There is no intention to move the prices of catering sugar, and the price will remain in the range of 12.60 pounds, because the state still bears this support.
