The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the government unanimously agreed to the appointment of David Zaini as the new president of the Internal Security Agency (Shin Bet).

Netanyahu announced the appointment of Zeni last May. Zeni will take office on October 5 and his term will continue for a period of five years, according to “Reuters”.

Zini is the position to succeed Ronin Bar, who stepped down in June after announcing his resignation in April, after Netanyahu said he decided to dismiss him. Israeli media reported that the Supreme Court later ruled that this decision was “illegal.”

The Shin Bet, which is concerned with the conduct of anti -terrorism investigations, has become the focus of a political battle that is widely taken between the right -wing Netanyahu coalition government and a group of critics, including members of the security establishment and the families of the hostages detained in Gaza.
