The Foreign Minister participates in the joint ministerial meeting between the foreign ministers of cooperation countries and the United Kingdom

Participated d. Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the joint ministerial meeting held in New York today, between the foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the United Kingdom, on the sidelines of the eighties of the United Nations General Assembly.

The Cooperation Council delegation was chaired by Mr. Abdullah Ali Al -Yahya, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait, President of the current session of the Ministerial Council, while the United Kingdom was headed by Mrs. Evit Cooper, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development, in the presence of Professor Jassim ﷴ Al -Badawi, Secretary -General of the Council.

During the meeting, the path of historical friendship and strategic partnership between the countries of the Cooperation Council and the United Kingdom was discussed and the progress and development in various fields, ways to improve joint coordination at all levels, in a way that meets the aspirations and common interests, in addition to discussing the developments of regional conditions, and exchange of views towards enhancing cooperation and coordination in line with the strategic partnership between the two sides.

During the meeting, the ministers affirmed their commitment to promoting peace and work together to resolve conflicts and address instability, and praised the efforts of the Cooperation Council states to end regional conflicts through mediation and dialogue and enhancing mutual understanding, and welcomed the election of the Kingdom of Bahrain as a non -permanent member of the Security Council.

The two sides also affirmed their commitment to promoting free trade and giving priority to concluding the free trade agreement between the Cooperation Council and the United Kingdom, in order to enhance trade and investment relations.

The foreign ministers in the GCC states expressed their countries’ appreciation of the UK decision to announce their recognition of the independent Palestinian state, and stressed the importance of continuing international efforts to push the mass peace march in the region for the benefit of all its peoples.

Ambassador Sheikh Abdullah bin Ali Al Khalifa, Director General of Bilateral Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs participated in the meeting.
