The Egyptian Museum of Tahrir displays one of its most prominent rare holdings, which is a statue sitting for King Menkaoura, one of the most important kings of the fourth family and the owner of the third pyramid in the Giza Plateau.

This majestic statue, along with a group of statues of the old state kings, was discovered during the late eighties of the nineteenth century, in a hideout near the Temple of Battah in the city of Memphis, and the statue is embodied by King Menkarat in the traditional sitting position; His left hand appears to be separated on his thigh while his right hand is tightly caught in a royal gesture that reflects his prestige and authority.
The throne, on which the king sits with unique royal decorations, bears the name Horus engraved within a rectangular frame known as “Sarkhah”, while his royal title “Nasut Betty” in an oval cartridge, in a clear indication of his position as a ruler of Upper and Lower Egypt.
The statue made of very hard dioita stone is estimated at 2490-2472 BC, and is one of the most wonderful models of royal sculpture in the old state, because of its technical accuracy and mastery in sculpting features and royal details.
The statue holds the number “Je28578 in the records of the Egyptian Museum, to remain a witness to the greatness of the ancient Egyptian art, and a vivid evidence of the skill of the ancient Egyptians in immortalizing their kings in the artistic style of Khaled through the ages.
