The Ministry of Health and Population has announced the closure of 12 unlicensed centers for addiction and psychiatry at the Al -Qanater facility center in Giza Governorate, for violating health and legal requirements and practicing activity without licenses.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the ministry’s official spokesman, explained that a joint inspection campaign included the Free Treatment Department at the Directorate of Health Affairs in Giza, and the presidency of Abu Ghaleb neighborhood, and in cooperation with the General Administration of Narcotics Control at the Ministry of Interior and the Investigation of the Qanater Facility, which resulted in the seizure of these facilities. The violating centers included 3 centers affiliated with the Roots Foundation, the promise center of the Egyptian compound in Abu Ghaleb, and 8 other centers without names in the same region. It was found that 21 officials and supervisors were found in these facilities without medical qualifications.
Abdel Ghaffar stressed that these centers violate the Law of NGOs (No. 51 of 1981, amended by Law 153 of 2004 “and the Mental Health Law” No. 71 of 2009 “, as well as lack of infection control standards and the environmental law, with the absence of precautionary measures, which exposes the inmates to health risks.
For his part, Dr. Hisham Zaki, Head of the Central Administration of NGOs and Licensing, stressed the continuation of regulatory campaigns to ensure adherence to health and legal standards, in order to preserve the safety of patients and provide safe treatment services.
