Haaretz said that Spain canceled a third deal to buy weapons from Israel worth 207 million euros, two days after a law to ban arms trade with Israel entered into force, against the background of the continuation of the extermination war on the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli newspaper reported that Spain canceled the purchase of weapons with the Israeli company Rafael, including 45 containers that include advanced devices used in air navigation.
She pointed out that the containers are equipped with visual electro sensors, laser indicators, and infrared sensors, and the new version also includes an advanced radar for photography and survey with high accuracy.
“Haaretz” explained that the cancellation of the deal came after the law of the ban on arms trade with Israel entered into force in Spain, which provides for the prevention of exporting or importing weapons and double -use weapons and technologies to and from Israel, and prohibiting its passage through Spanish ports.
The Spanish government had previously canceled a contract of 700 million euros to buy Israeli design launchers, and also canceled another contract that includes the purchase of 168 anti -armored missile launchers worth 287.5 million euros.
According to the Spanish newspaper “Lavangardia”, the government of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has developed a plan that is currently working to get rid of Israeli weapons and technology in its armed forces.
And last Tuesday, the Spanish government approved a royal decree imposing a comprehensive ban on providing Israel with weapons, under the framework of sanctions bearing the name “combating genocide in Gaza and in support of the Palestinian people” and confirmed that the sanctions were imposed on Israel “to stop the genocide in Gaza and increase political pressure on Israel.”
Economy Minister Carlos Cuerbo said – at a press conference after a government meeting – that the decision prohibits the export of all defense equipment, products and technologies used in this field to Israel, as well as its import.
Quirbo added that the text also prohibits requests to transport aircraft fuel that is likely to be used for military purposes, and prohibits the import of products “received from illegal settlements in Gaza and the West Bank” and promoting them.
The minister stressed, “This decision represents a major step forward, and it is a pioneer at the international level in the field of imposing a comprehensive ban on the supply of weapons to Israel.”
It is worth noting that the Socialist Prime Minister (Sanchez) is one of the most critical voices in Europe for Israel. “I think one of the darkest and most terrible events of the 21st century is taking place in front of our eyes,” said last Monday at Colombia University in New York, before the start of the United Nations General Assembly meetings.
With American support, Israel has committed since October 7, 2023 genocide in Gaza, which left 65,502 martyrs, and 167,376 injured, most of them children and women, and the famine that has lost the lives of 442 Palestinians, including 147 children.
