Report: The American ambassador to Israel will visit a “rare” visit to Egypt

The American newspaper “The New York Times” said on Saturday that the American ambassador to Israel, Mike Hackabi, may visit Egypt in the coming days, to hold talks with Egyptian officials focusing on the war in the Gaza Strip and tension between Israel and Egypt, which is due to the greatest due to the war.

The newspaper quoted three officials from the United States and the Middle East as saying that it was the first time in years that an American ambassador to Israel has been in talks with Egyptian officials, while he is at the head of the American diplomatic mission in Israel.

The officials added that Hakapi is expected to meet with prominent officials, including Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel -Ati.

Two New York Times officials informed that Hackabi’s talks in Egypt will include US President Donald Trump’s plan to end the Gaza war that he discussed with Arab and Muslim officials in New York last week.

It is not yet clear the role that the current US ambassador to Egypt, Hiro Mustafa Gargj, who was appointed during the era of the administration of former President Joe Biden in the talks. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry did not respond to a request from the New York Times for comment.

Egypt criticized the Israeli land attack on Gaza City, which was housing nearly one million Palestinians until recently, amid fears that the fighting would force hundreds of thousands of Gaza population to cross the Egyptian border into the Sinai Peninsula.
