The credit granted to the various economic sectors in Egypt witnessed a remarkable increase during the fiscal year 2024/2025, according to the data of the central bank.
Noticeable growth in the credit granted to the public business sector
According to the central bank’s report, the credit submitted to the business sector increased by 238.3 billion pounds, at a growth rate of 9.7%, compared to an increase of 152.8 billion pounds at a rate of 8.1% during the same period in the previous fiscal year, bringing its total balance to about 2.697.0 billion pounds by the end of December 2024.
The credit granted to the family sector also recorded an increase of 119.5 billion pounds, at a growth rate of 11.6%, compared to an increase of 102.8 billion pounds at a rate of 12.3% in the comparative period, bringing its score to 1.153.5 billion pounds at the end of December 2024.
As for the public business sector, the credit granted to it increased by 58.8 billion pounds, at a rate of 15.9%, to reach 429.0 billion pounds at the end of the period.
Wide anticipation of the central bank meeting on the interest next Thursday
The attention of the financial markets in Egypt is heading to the sixth meeting of the Central Banking Policy Committee for the year 2025, which is scheduled to be held on Thursday, October 2, before only two meetings remaining in the agenda of the year.
The Central Bank had reduced interest rates at its last meeting for the third time during 2025, at 200 basis points, to settle at 22% for deposit and 23% for lending.
