Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, affirmed that there is no relationship between the increase in agricultural exports and the high prices of fruits and vegetables in the local market, explaining that export has nothing to do with high prices, and attributed the problem to the multiplicity of intermediate rings between farms and the consumer.

Farouk: There is no relationship between the increase in agricultural exports and the high prices of fruit

On the citizens’ complaints about the high prices, Farouk explained during televised statements that the product that is exported abroad is different, and that the farms designated for export have increased their productivity and did not affect the local supply.

The Minister of Agriculture added: We exceeded the 1.6 million tons in citrus, and potatoes exceeded 1.3 million tons, the third place onions, and the beans of potatoes, of course, have a brilliant future with us.

On the high prices of vegetables and fruits, the Minister of Agriculture pointed out that the prices in Egypt are low compared to Europe, saying: If we compare the prices in Egypt and Europe, we are in another time.

The minister called for rationalizing consumption in Egypt, saying: We are with the consumption of our consumption, when we travel his righteousness, we all buy one, when I entered, buy what we buy two kilos of bananas, by buying three or four pieces.

With regard to the fertilizer crisis that affected the farmers, the minister disagreed with its description as the “crisis”, acknowledging the existence of a stop for fertilizer factories for about two months due to the problems of natural gas during the summer season, and stressed that the situation was controlled by pumping the reserve of fertilizers in Egypt 350 thousand tons.
