The Japanese Ashai newspaper reported today, Wednesday, quoting unnamed government sources that Japan will not recognize a Palestinian state at the present time and that Prime Minister Shigero Ishiba will be absent from an important meeting during the United Nations General Assembly this month.
Japan and the Palestinian issue
According to Reuters, Japan’s position contradicts the movements of France, Britain and Canada – its counterparts in the group of seven countries – to recognize a Palestinian state, in addition to Australia.
This position is consistent with the United States, the closest ally of Israel, who rejected the idea of recognizing a Palestinian state.
