Dr. Shawky Allam, the former Grand Mufti of Egypt, said that teaching children is a duty on the family, stressing that refraining from their education is a default that the family bears responsibility, especially in light of the needs of the age that impose a mandatory amount of education.

The former Egyptian Mufti, during televised statements, explained that basic education such as reading, writing and understanding has become an indispensable necessity, and for this reason it was made compulsory in Egypt in the primary education stage, indicating that the spread of illiteracy was a reason for many of the previous societal problems.
He pointed out that modern life, such as dealing with financial inclusion services and the use of bank cards, imposes a certain amount of knowledge to protect his money and spend his basic needs, which makes education a responsibility that cannot be tolerated.
He added that the family that excessively teaching its children exposes them to ignorance and deprivation of their most basic rights, and be a partner in the future damages they may be exposed to due to ignorance and the inability to deal with the requirements of life.
He emphasized that education is an inherent right for the child and a duty of the family and society, and that neglecting this duty makes religious and moral consequences, because the interest of children and society is only achieved by spreading science and eradicating ignorance.
