In a move that sparked the attention of parents, the Ministry of Education announced the increase in the expenses of public schools for (experimental) languages at all educational levels for the academic year 2025/2026, where varying increases were approved according to the educational stage and the student’s condition is complete – son of workers – son of teachers – reduced.
The expenses included book fees, language services, general activity and technological development, in addition to payment installments.
Details of the academic fees
Official schedules indicate that ordinary students’ expenses (Kamel) came as follows:
Kids First (KG1): 2427 pounds.
Second Kindergarten (KG2): 1875 pounds.
First, second and third grade primary: 2125 pounds.
Fifth, fifth and sixth grade: 2645 pounds.
First and second preparatory grade: 2445 pounds.
Third preparatory grade: 2555 pounds.
Expenses are paid in 4 installments, and the first installment often includes the value of general activity and technology development.
Discounts for children and teachers
The Ministry has allocated special discounts for the children of workers in the state and teachers, as the expenses came as follows:
Workers
Expenses start from 1613.96 pounds for the second kindergarten, and reach 2207.41 pounds for the third preparatory grade.
The reduction is evident in the language services item, as it decreases from 1052.43 pounds in the first kindergarten to 789.32 pounds for the children of workers.
Pensions or deceased people (distinguished schools)
Expenses start from 2315.16 pounds for kindergarten and reach 3346.72 pounds for the third preparatory grade.
The increase in the increase here varies due to the classification of “distinct” schools, which includes higher services and additional costs.
Reduced students (special cases)
Reduced expenses were set for some groups, starting from 867.32 pounds for kindergarten to the third grade of primary school.
It reaches 1434.22 pounds for the third preparatory grade, and is also paid in installments, although some stages do not include second and third installments.
The notes attached to the tables: The value of language services is not comprehensive 100 pounds of general activity and 50 pounds technological development.
The amount of 12 pounds is deducted from the first installment and the total of schools located in the governorates of (Port Said – Luxor – Ismailia).
Parents’ reactions
The new increase witnessed a wave of controversy among parents, especially in light of the current economic conditions. Some expressed their dissatisfaction with the repeated annual increase in expenses, stressing that official education is no longer free as it is assumed. While others saw that these increases may be justified if the level of educational services provided in public schools for languages was improved, in terms of education quality, teachers ’efficiency and learning environment.
According to the documents, the Ministry of Education is moving towards circulating the system of participation in financing education, while providing discounts for the recipients due. However, there are remaining demands from the parents to improve the infrastructure of schools and provide an appropriate educational climate in exchange for these high expenses, especially with the increasing burdens of living over the Egyptian family.
