In an exceptional scene that brought back to the memory pictures of the major protests in Europe, life was disrupted in many Italian cities after thousands went out to the streets under the slogan “to disrupt everything” in solidarity with Gaza, and to demand the cessation of shipments of weapons sent to Israel.
Pictures and videos spread on social media platforms such as wildfire, to document public transportation, ports and railways, in addition to student activities in universities.
These scenes were widely welcomed by the pioneers of platforms, while the Gaza tag turned into a large area of interaction, during which bloggers and activists expressed their admiration for the popular momentum, which gave the demonstrations a different character.
In the circulating clips, protesters appeared raising a huge Palestinian flag roaming the streets, chanting slogans describing the war on Gaza as “genocide”, while others carried banners saying: “Free Gaza, stop genocide.”
Ports workers in the cities of Genoa and Levorno also prevented arms shipments, which disrupted the movement of ships and logistical operations, while the protests extended to Milan, which witnessed confrontations with the police.
Activists described what happened as a “historic position for the Italian people”, which expressed his rejection of his right -wing government’s position in support of Tel Aviv.
Commentators stressed that this solidarity reflects people’s willingness to sacrifice their interests in order to stand with the oppressed, noting that the pressure of free peoples represents the strongest response to the one who underestimated the word, image and video, and shows the ability of people to transform solidarity into a real change force.
Blogans saw that this comprehensive strike may lead Europe to break its silence towards the Israeli occupation, considering that what happened in Italy is a strong message that confirms the ability of peoples to impose new equations.
While others described the scene as inspiring, especially with the absence of influencing solidarity activities in the Arab and Islamic worlds, stressing that the snowball that started from Italy should grow up to turn into a political mobility pressing European governments.
Activists also pointed to the importance of the timing in which these events came out, as they coincide with Israeli statements targeting the demonization of the Al -Samoud fleet heading towards Gaza, and with discussions in some circles calling for “a return to normal life” despite the continuation of the war.
They explained that this is the most appropriate time for life to stop for Gaza, because the matter is no longer related to bombing and killing only, but also to execute all cities and erase them from existence.
Some commentators described the scene as “inspiring, but it is shy”, indicating that he came out of Europe, not from the Arab world, while others stressed the need to build on this step and turn the slogan “Let Gaza live free or for the world to stop” into a compressive political act and a continuous popular movement until the circle of silence about what they described as the “crime of the century” taking place in Gaza.
This popular mobilization coincided with a milestone, as European countries are preparing to recognize the State of Palestine at the United Nations, after Britain, France, Australia and Canada declared its official recognition, at a time when Italy is still waiting.
The Georgia Melonian government is adopting a cautious strict stance of the war in Gaza, although the Prime Minister has repeatedly expressed its “concern” over the Israeli attacks.
The government says it does not want to recognize the state of Palestine “at the present time”, and is reluctant to accept the commercial sanctions proposed by the European Union.
