If the year 2023 is the year of fascination with artificial intelligence, then the year 2025 appears to be the year of accountability, in which the delusions of digital neutrality have passed away, in which the voices of the law rose over the noise of algorithms, three major legal issues in only one week in the United States have redrawd the features of the relationship between man and the machine, and raised a more dangerous global question than ever: Who monitors who? Man monitors artificial intelligence … or vice versa?
In California, unprecedented judicial rules were written to be restricted to the entry of artificial intelligence into the corridors of the courts, preventing the entry of personal data without explicit permission, and imposing human investigation on all the instructions of the machine, as if the judge was signed by the signing of the “robot” .. a signature that carries the cold accounts and the silence of electronic slides, but it is besieged by the fence of humanitarian law.
In another scene that reminds us of the days of art struggle with technology at the time of “NAPSTER”, Anthropic faces a collective lawsuit after accusing it of using millions of pirated books to train its smart model, to return us to the new old question: Is creativity belong to the human imagination alone, or has the machine became an illegal heir? As for the company Tempus AI, another blow from the investors themselves, accusing it of deceiving them with misleading accounting data and foggy partnerships, becomes a lesson that artificial intelligence may be smart in misleading facts as in resolving issues.
The scene has become clear: Artificial intelligence is no longer flying in a legal vacuum, we are in the time of smart accountability, where the wires are intertwined with the texts of the legislation, and where the law is written with the supply of technology as written in words.
In the Kingdom of Bahrain, we did not wait for the Western winds to reach us with its legislation; Rather, the Information and Electronic Government Authority launched the national policy of artificial intelligence, and adopted the Gulf Charter of Technical Ethics, in a step that is not satisfied with setting rules, but rather establishes a digital philosophy that is inspired by Gulf values, the principles of Islamic law, and the spirit of national identity, it is not just regulations, but rather a position: that our future belongs to us, not a grant from others.
But the deepest question remains: Will we be satisfied with importing and adapting laws, or will we have the audacity to formulate innovative legislation that leads the world to our experience? The battle is no longer between science fiction and reality, but rather between a conscience of Yazan, a law that determines, and the speed of a machine that does not know mercy.
History does not write the spectators, but rather those who dare put the first point in the future line, and with artificial intelligence, either we are the ones who write our story .. or become just a line in a story that others write.
