A strategic partnership in education and culture between the two countries

Relations between Bahrain and Egypt embodied a distinguished model for academic and cultural cooperation that extends over decades. These historical ties made bridges of knowledge that contributed to building Bahraini competencies, and made Egyptian universities a major destination for Bahraini students before the founding of the University of Bahrain.

With the development of the partnership between the two countries, the cooperation included the signing of two executives in education and the environment for the years 2022-2024, as well as strengthening the areas of endowment, advocacy and thought. In 2024, Bahrain also witnessed a guest of honor at the General Exhibition of Arts in Cairo, and discussed new mechanisms for student exchange and scientific research. This march was crowned with the golden jubilee celebrations of diplomatic relations (1972-2022), stressing that Bahraini -Egyptian cooperation in education and culture represents a strategic partnership that makes the future.

These relations have always contributed to preparing generations of Bahraini competencies that graduated in Egyptian universities, as well as continuous cooperation in the areas of higher education, scientific research, culture and arts, and joint programs.

This cooperation is an extension of long decades of communication, which reflects the depth of fraternal ties between the two brotherly peoples, and enhances the joint role in supporting Arab and Islamic issues.

The year 2022 witnessed the signing of two important executives, as the Foreign Minister signed Dr. Abdullatif Al-Zayani, with his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, is an executive program in the field of education for the two years 2022-2023, and another executive program in the field of environmental protection 2022-2024.

This came on the sidelines of the visit of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El -Sisi to the Kingdom of Bahrain, in a move that reflected the durability of bilateral relations and the desire of the two countries to enhance cooperation in the areas of sustainable development.

Before the establishment of the University of Bahrain, the Egyptian universities were the first destination for Bahraini students, and many of them still continue their higher studies in Egyptian universities until today.

Many graduates of these universities have assumed leadership positions in Bahraini ministries and bodies, which reflects Egypt’s great role in building Bahraini national competencies.

These relations are based on profound cultural factors that include the unity of language, religion and common history, as well as mutual political positions that confirm the durability of ties between the two countries.

On August 11, 2024, the Egyptian Minister of Awqaf received Dr. Osama Al -Azhari, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to Egypt and the permanent delegate to the League of Arab States, Fawzia Zainal, where the meeting discussed the opportunities available to enhance joint cooperation in the areas of advocacy and endowment, as well as the efforts of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Egypt to spread enlightened thought and enhance the values ​​of coexistence between civilizations.

The joint work was emphasized to consolidate the tolerant Islamic values, and to start towards effective practical programs that serve the two countries and support the full brotherhood between the two peoples.

On June 10, 2024, the Egyptian Minister of Culture, Dr. Nevin Al -Kilani, the activities of the 44th session of the General Exhibition at the Egyptian Opera House, with the participation of more than 300 Egyptian and Arab artists.

The President of the National Council for Arts in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Sheikh Rashid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, was a guest of honor for this session, which spanned its activities until July 31, 2024, and included multiple cultural seminars and activities, reflecting the distinguished position of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the Arab cultural scene, and highlights its interest in art and creativity as a bridge of civilization.

On March 11, 2024, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Egypt met d. Ayman Ashour, Ambassador Fawzia Bint Zainal, where the two sides discussed the mechanisms for increasing student exchange, especially in postgraduate studies and training programs.

They also discussed the idea of ​​organizing a joint forum for educational and research cooperation, and expanding the opportunities for partnerships between Bahraini and Egyptian universities.

It was agreed to develop cooperation in the areas of scientific research of common concern, in a way that meets the needs of development in the two countries and keeps pace with global challenges such as climate change.

On December 29, 2022, the Egyptian embassy in Manama, in cooperation with the Association “This is Bahrain”, organized an artistic party on the occasion of the fifty -year anniversary of the inauguration of official diplomatic relations between the two countries, in conjunction with the celebrations of the Kingdom of Bahrain with its national holidays.

The ceremony was attended by a number of senior Bahraini and Egyptian officials, as well as members of the diplomatic corps and the Egyptian community in Bahrain, in a scene that embodied the depth of brotherly and historical relations between the two peoples.

These stations confirm that Bahraini -Egyptian relations in the fields of education and culture are not just a transient bilateral cooperation, but rather an extended strategic partnership that is established over time.

It contributed to building the Bahraini person and making national competencies, and established the position of Bahrain and Egypt as two incubators of science, knowledge and culture.

With the challenges in the world today, these relations remain a role model in Arab solidarity, and opens up spacious horizons for a brighter future in various academic and cultural fields.
