The World Conference, “We Humanity”, discussed 2025, the issues of societal integration and the empowerment of persons with intellectual disabilities, stressing the need to shift from the patterns of institutional accommodation to independent living in society. In a session entitled “Working to cancel the shelter institutions”, Milan Safraba, representative of the Comprehensive Humility in Europe, presented the European continent’s experience in this field, noting that approximately 750 thousand people with mental disabilities are still living in closed institutions that include more than 30 people in one place, in addition to about 39 thousand people in psychiatric hospitals.
