The Financial Times newspaper said today, Monday, that British Prime Minister Kiir Starmer is looking into proposals to cancel some visa fees for the best global competencies, at a time when the United States adopts a more strict stance towards the immigration file.

The report added that the Starmer team concerned with attracting global talents is working to put ideas aimed at attracting the most prominent scientists, academics and digital experts to the United Kingdom with the aim of enhancing economic growth, based on sources familiar with discussions inside the headquarters of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Treasury.
According to the report, the proposals include completely canceling the visa costs for people who graduated from the five best universities in the world or with prestigious awards.
The report indicated that these reforms were under discussion inside the headquarters of the Prime Minister and the Treasury before the administration of US President Donald Trump announced its decision to impose new fees of $ 100,000 on skilled H-1B employment visas, starting from Sunday, which are visas that American technology companies rely on on a large scale.
The report quoted a participant source in British discussions as saying that the American decision gave a strong boost to defenders of reforming the visa system for higher competencies in Britain, as part of a plan to support growth before the budget scheduled for November 26.
