The Palestinian mission in the United Kingdom launched a ceremony to raise the Palestinian flag on the occasion of its conversion to the Embassy of the State of Palestine to the United Kingdom, after the United Kingdom announced its official recognition of the State of Palestine, in the presence of Sheikh Fawaz bin Muhammad Al Khalifa, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Kingdom, Dean of the Arab diplomatic corps, and Hamish Falconer, Minister of State for Middle East and North Africa in the British Foreign Ministry, and a number of members of the British Parliament, ambassadors and diplomats accredited to the United Kingdom.
On this occasion, Sheikh Fawaz bin Muhammad Al Khalifa, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Kingdom, Dean of the Arab diplomatic corps, expressed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s welcome to the United Kingdom’s announcement of its recognition of the Palestinian state, noting its importance in reviving the peace process in the Middle East region, and ensuring the legitimate Palestinian people’s right to establish an independent state and push regional and international efforts aimed at achieving a two -state solution in accordance with international legitimacy decisions.
After raising the Palestinian flag, His Excellency Hamish Waloner, British Minister of State for Middle East and North Africa, delivered a speech in which he affirmed that the recognition of the Palestinian state constitutes a historical decision that reflects the steadfast support of the Palestinian people’s right to decide their fate.
Adding that the United Kingdom supports the two -state solution, and that this recognition is not symbolic, but rather declaring clear intentions, and comes within the efforts to stop violence and achieve a fair and sustainable peace in the region.
And d. Hossam Zumtat, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the United Kingdom, a speech in which he made sincere thanks and appreciation to Sheikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Dean of the Arab diplomatic corps, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Kingdom for the support he received, describing the British recognition of historical and the new step towards freedom and embodying the right of the Palestinian people to self -determination, stressing the need to translate this important step into immediate and tangible procedures.
