The workers in the tourism sector in Luxor expressed their great happiness with the historical visit of the Spanish monarch, King Philip VI and Queen Letizia, stressing that the event represents a strong boost for the start of the new tourist season and good news for the city that is the capital of global tourism.

The visit was not limited to the royal event only, but also sparked widespread controversy between the people and workers in the tourism sector, who expressed their surprise at the emergence of the Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathi for the first time in Luxor in more than a year and three months, as it came in the reception of a king and Queen of Spain.

It is noteworthy that Minister Sherif Fathi, who took office in July 2024, announced plans to enhance tourism in Luxor and Aswan during the summer of 2025, by providing motivational packages to airlines and increasing tourism flights, as part of the promotion of cultural tourism and night tourism.
Spain in the lead and remarkable growth of numbers
According to the statements of the Cultural Tourism Marketing Committee in Luxor, Spain is ranked first in sending tourists to Egypt for the fourth year in a row, with 16 weekly flights, with expectations of an increase of 10% after the royal visit.
Studies indicate an increase of 59% in the number of Spanish tourists coming to Luxor this year, amid expectations of an additional increase ranging between 25% and 30% during 2025 compared to last year.
Free propaganda for Egypt and a message of reassurance
The royal visit turned into a free publicity of Luxor, as it emphasized security and stability, and encouraged the promotion of new monuments and projects, such as the lighting of the Hatshepsut Temple and the Valley of the Kings, which enhances the location of Luxor as the most important destination for cultural tourism globally.
