US President Donald Trump met with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, at the Emindorf-Restsron military base in Ancorag, the largest city of Alaska, today, Friday. The two leaders came out of the plane at the same time and advanced together on the red carpet, shaking hands in front of a large platform saying “Alaska 2025”, surrounded by parked fighters and red carpets.
Luxurious official and military reception
The American presidential plane first reached the base, and Trump stayed inside for several minutes waiting for Putin. The two presidents later moved by the US presidential car to the summit, after Trump invited Putin to ride with him. The reception was accompanied by the flight of advanced B-2 ghost and F-35 as a greeting to the Russian president.
Closed conversations and long -term
The meeting between Trump and Putin began as journalists left the meeting place, without any direct statements to the leaders. The Kremlin explained that the summit is “historic” and that its location is “symbolic importance related to the victory of the two countries in World War II.” He added that the meeting will give priority to the responsibilities of the two countries in international security and stability before the settlement file in Ukraine.
Summit details details
The Kremlin estimated that the summit will last at least “6 to 7 hours”, including the meeting of the two leaders individually, and then extensive negotiations between their delegations, followed by a joint press conference. Dmitry Peskov spokesman pointed to the possibility of a later triple meeting between Putin, Trump and Zelinski if concrete results from the conversations are achieved.
Participating delegations
Trump was planned to hold a single meeting with Putin, but the White House spokesperson confirmed the presence of assistants of the president, most notably Foreign Minister Marco Rubio and Steve Witkev. While the Russian delegation includes senior officials such as Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andre Bilosov, Minister of Defense, and Yuri Ushakov, President of Foreign Affairs.
The first summit in 4 years
This is the first summit between two American and Russian presidents in more than four years, and indicates the desire of the two parties to discuss issues of security, international stability and settlement in Ukraine within a long and closed historical meeting of journalists.
