Eng. Dina Siyam, Acting President of the Regional Center for Planning and Development of the Suez Canal Region, represented by the Public Authority for Urban Planning, participated in the activities of the International Forum for Sustainable Urban Development based on culture and creativity 2025, which was hosted by Wuhan – China during the period from 25 to 26 August 2025.
Engineer Dina Siyam and Eng. Iman Hassan, representative of the Egypt Office of the United Nations Human Settlements Program, reviewed the experience of the strategic plan for urban development of the city of Dahab in South Sinai Governorate, as a pioneering model for urban planning based on culture and creativity.
The presentation dealt with the role of the plan in meeting the needs of the local population, the development vision and the proposed priority projects, in order to enhance the position of Dahab as a sustainable tourist center that combines attracting investments and providing job opportunities, preserving cultural identity and heritage to ensure a sustainable urban tourism.
The forum, organized by UNESCO in partnership with the World Tourism Organization and the United Nations Human Settlements and Chinese government, witnessed the launch of innovative solutions to enhance urban tourism based on culture, which puts heritage and sustainability at the heart of development strategies.
It is noteworthy that the strategic plan for the city of Dahab was prepared within the framework of the project of strategic plans for small cities and cities of a special nature, which is being implemented in cooperation between the Public Authority for Urban Planning and the United Nations Human Settlements Program.
