US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he had ordered the transfer of two American nuclear submarines to areas close to Russia, in a move described as a response to “very provocative statements” from former Russian President Dimitri Medvedev.

Published on “Truth Susal”

Trump wrote on his social platform “Truth Suosal” that he “ordered the transfer of two nuclear submarines to the appropriate areas, in anticipation of the possibility that these foolish and provocative statements will be more than just words.” The US president added: “The words are very important, and often lead to unintended consequences. I hope this is not one of these cases.”

Nuclear threats from Medvedev

These statements come after Medvedev warned, on Thursday, Trump that Moscow still possesses nuclear capabilities dating back to the Soviet era as a last option. Trump did not explain whether the submarines that he ordered to transport only nuclear energy were, or are it equipped with nuclear heads. It was not specifically disclosed.

At the timing of sensitive

Trump’s order was carried out at a sensitive time that the relations between Washington and Moscow are going through. The US Navy continues its patrols in conflict areas around the world, but the direct impact of this move on the American fleet has not yet been known.

This comes in parallel with Trump’s sending his own envoy Steve Wittouf to Moscow to pressure for the ceasefire in the Russian -Ukrainian war, threatening to impose new economic sanctions if no progress has been made.

A final deadline is approaching

Earlier, Trump reduced the deadline that he granted to Russia from 50 days to only 10 days, a deadline for next week. As for the submarine post, it came hours after Trump described Medvedev as a “former failed president of Russia”, warning him of “monitoring his words.”

Medvedev’s response: Russia is right

Medvedev responded to the Trump publication by saying: “Russia is right in everything, and it will continue to go on.” Medvedev currently holds the position of Vice -President of the Russian Security Council, headed by Vladimir Putin. Since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine in 2022, Medvedev has been famous for hostile statements and nuclear threats against the West, in a major shift from his previous image as a liberal president.

Controversial statements

On July 15, Medvedev wrote, in response to Trump’s announcement of sending more weapons to Ukraine and imposing new fees on Moscow: “Trump issued a theatrical warning to the Kremlin. The world trembled with anticipation, the aggressive Europe was disappointed, and Russia has not spared.”

Later this week, Medvedev said: “Trump plays a warning game with Russia: 50 days or 10. He has to remember two things:

  • Russia is not Israel, not even Iran.

  • Every new warning is a threat and a step towards war, not with Ukraine, but with his country itself. “

  • Analysis: Point points against Putin

Some analysts believe that Medvedev is using his fiery statements to win the satisfaction of Putin and falcons within the Russian military establishment, after he lost many of his previous popularity as a moderate president.
