With the entry of the new academic year, the start of the application of the decree in the amendment law on traffic coincided with the return of students to their schools, in a move that confirms Bahrain’s keenness to protect lives and ensure the smooth flow of traffic. This law is an important station in developing national legislation that establishes traffic security and achieves justice among road users.
These amendments came in an ideal time, as drivers got acquainted with their rights and duties before the streets crowded with students and parents. And every year we are witnessing suffering from the gates of schools, whether from the parents who pick up their children or bus drivers who are very patience amid congestion, along with the security men who make an exceptional effort to regulate traffic.
Although the amendments mainly targeted the reckless behaviors that cause fatal accidents, their impact will extend to the delivery and receipt of students. The traffic commitment here is not just a legal duty, but a humanitarian responsibility to protect students and ensure the right of others to a smooth traffic movement.
It is unfortunate that some special delivery drivers neglect the regimes on the pretext of circumstances, but the most important thing is that these people realize that they are a role model for students, and that wrong behaviors may be implanted in their minds and turn into natural practices in the future.
The efforts of the Ministry of the Interior and the Traffic Department cannot be overlooked in spreading continuous traffic awareness, which is an investment in generations’ awareness, so that the student arises while he is aware of his responsibility towards the road. Despite the difficulty of police work in schools, what traffic men and community police offer embodies professionalism and dedication to protecting everyone.
The new sanctions may seem strict, but in essence, they were placed to protect society and ensure the safety of road users. It is not only a deterrent tool, but a safety valve against the recklessness that has long caused painful tragedies, which killed complete families. As the doctor opens a wound to eradicate the tumor, the application of the firm law is the way to address traffic chaos and protect lives.
