The body of a Pakistani man was recently found 28 years after his disappearance while climbing a mountain in Pakistan, due to the melting of a ice river in the area.

Nasser al -Din, who is known only his first name, was lost in 1997 in Kohistan at the foothills of the Himalayas in the Khyberbon Bettongoa, on the border with Afghanistan.

The man, who was 31 years old, left his house after a family fight and was crossing a mountain with his brother when he fell into an ice rift. His brother was able to return to his village.

“Our family has done everything in its power to find it over the years,” his nephew Malik Obaid told AFP.

“Our uncles and our cousins went to the ice river several times to try to recover its remains, but they were forced to abandon these efforts due to the lack of the necessary equipment at that time.”

The body of Nasser al -Din, a married and father of two children at the time of his disappearance, appeared naturally on the Lady Midoz ice River, whose melting was accelerated due to climate change, before she was observed on July 31.

The body, preserved with the ice, was found, along with the victim’s identity card. His remains were finally buried on Wednesday.

Malik Obaid said, “We have finally given the discovery of his body.”

Pakistan includes more than 13,000 ice rivers, more than any other country outside the polar areas. But the high global temperatures associated with climate change causes the ice flowers to melt quickly.
