The Kuwaiti Ministry of Health announced, on Wednesday, the death of 13 people and the record of 21 cases of permanent blindness or the vision, among 63 alcoholic poisoning cases, and said that all infected cases are of Asian nationalities.
Alcoholic poisoning in Kuwait
The Ministry of Health said, in a statement, that its hospitals have dealt last Saturday with 63 cases of alcoholic poisoning resulting from drinking drinks with methanol, in immediate and continuous coordination between the hospitals and the Kuwait Center for Poison Control, and in cooperation with the security authorities and the concerned authorities in the country.
The Ministry explained that the cases varied in the severity of the symptoms, as it was necessary to introduce a number of them into the intensive care departments, where 31 cases of use of artificial respirators were required, while 51 cases of urgent dialysis sessions were required, and 21 cases of permanent blindness were recorded or visible. The injuries so far resulted in 13 deaths, all of them are Asian nationalities.
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Health also affirmed its continued follow -up of all cases around the clock, and coordination with the relevant authorities, to ensure the provision of the necessary medical care, calling for immediate reporting of any cases of suspicion of poisoning, through hospitals or accredited hot lines.
