Mental health is an integral part of public health, related to a sense of satisfaction and emotional stability, and includes in the school the school environment, social relations and psychological assistance, and affects a great way in their academic and social performance, which makes schools a great role as a motivating and supportive environment for public and psychological students. Which raises a question about the reality of mental health for our students in the schools of the Kingdom of Bahrain? What are the services and activities provided to them in this framework?
World health organizations, UNESCO and UNICEF have sent a memorandum of national policy makers and governments, at the United Nations Summit “Transfer Education and Building Our Future” 2022, including 5 main pillars in the field of policies in order to enhance education systems to protect and promote mental health, psychological and social well -being for children and adolescent students, namely:
Preparing and implementing school health policies based on the student’s needs, voice and capabilities.
Ensuring access to services and support in mental health.
– Enhancing the well -being of the teacher and career.
– Enhancing the capabilities of educational cadres in the field of mental health and psychosocial support.
Cooperation between the school, the family and society to build a safe and sponsor educational environment.
The importance of school mental health lies in important matters, most notably: improving both academic performance, social relationships, physical health, general welfare, behavior and self -management.
In the Kingdom of Bahrain, psychological school health serves an important segment of society represented by students of the Kingdom’s schools, and the work team consists of:
– The Ministry of Health: Psychiatry and Emerfactive Medicine, a psychologist, and a speech therapy specialist.
– The Ministry of Education: a special education teacher, a psychological guide, a social guide, in addition to the presence of a supportive team consisting of a medical secretary and technical, to enter information.
The Center for Mental Health Services aims to: early detection of cases of learning difficulties and mental and behavioral disorders and the development of treatment plans for them in cooperation with the relevant authorities, facilitating access to psychological services and reducing the stigma related to mental health, improving the concept of mental health and reducing the stigma related to psychiatry, strengthening partnership and cooperation between the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health and the involvement of society and civil society institutions, evaluation and treatment of disorders Speech, attention to preventive mental health.
The center provides its services in cooperation with the Ministry of Education represented in the Department of Special Education, the Department of Special Education and the Department of Student Services, in addition to the various departments of the Ministry of Health, and the most important of these services: psychological consultations for patients transferred from health centers, psychological consultations for teachers and social guides in addition to parents, evaluation and treatment of psychological disorders among students transferred from the Ministry of Education and health centers, evaluation and treatment of behavioral disorders among students Schools, applying psychological standards and intelligence tests, applying tests for learning difficulties, evaluating and treating speech disorder, organizing awareness lectures, training courses, workshops for guides, teachers, parents and school students.
Bahrain schools also offer activities that improve mental, mental and physical health for students, including: exercise, reading, music, drawing and design, writing, volunteering, sports and entertainment, and encourages them to search and enjoy the activities that suit them and help them improve.
