The transitional government in Mali announced the arrest of a group of soldiers and civilians, on charges of planning to destabilize state institutions with the support of foreign countries.
Details of arrest
The government said, in a statement issued on Thursday, that the suspects, who were described as marginal elements of the armed forces and the financial security forces, were arrested on the first of August, after what it said was a planned plot.
Results of investigations
The statement added that the arrests came after investigations by specialized security services, which revealed plans in which political figures and actors from civil society were involved, in addition to senior army officers.
An alleged French involvement
Among the detainees is a French citizen named “Yan Vizelier”, which the government accused of working for the French intelligence services. She explained that he mobilized political leaders, members of civil society, and senior officers, including Major General Abbas Dembele and Major General Nima Sagara, as part of this scheme.

The statement pointed out that this attempt came at a time when the financial nation is joining with all its components to enhance its restored sovereignty, and to eliminate the forces of terrorism within the framework of the confederation of the coast countries. The statement described these acts as sabotage, stressing that judicial investigations are continuing to reveal any potential partners.

The government also stressed that the armed forces and security forces are determined to continue their mission to combat terrorism in all its forms, reassuring the citizens that the situation is under control. She called on the financial people to remain calm while staying in front of what she described as desperate attempts to destabilize, stressing that these attempts will always fail, God willing.
