Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said that Lebanon is open to a calm and consensual dialogue on the fate of Hezbollah’s weapon, stressing at the same time the need to formulate a national strategy to defend Lebanon in light of the continuous Israeli threats.
Berri said, in a speech today, that the position of the ministers within the government regarding Hezbollah’s weapon “is not sectarian”, stressing that the Iuf Barak’s Israeli security paper goes beyond the principle of limiting weapons in the hands of the state, and is a rejected escalation.
Berri added: “We welcome the department’s speech to President Joseph Aoun and we supported and supported it, but there were those who were working to extend the political void, and we strongly reject attempts to spread hatred and intolerance among the Lebanese.”

He warned against the growing speech of hatred, and considered it “more dangerous than the same weapon”, calling for the unity of the national class and working within the rule of law and institutions, adding: “We are advocates of unity and cooperation, not sedition and rupture.”
Berri stressed that Lebanon has fully committed to the implementation of international resolution 1701, with the testimony of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), while Israel continues to violate this decision, by occupying Lebanese lands and expanding its control.
Berri refused to hold the Lebanese army alone responsible for confronting the border tensions, saying: “It is unacceptable to throw a fire ball in the arms of the army, and the Israeli army’s pillars visit to the south represents an insult to Lebanon’s sovereignty.”
He pointed out that protecting Lebanon and removing sedition must be a national priority, calling for facing internal and external challenges with a spirit of understanding and dialogue.
