On Friday morning, the run by His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa for the “Al -Hir” competition to extract the shellfish, as part of the activities of the eighth edition of the Nasser bin Hamad season for marine heritage sports, which is held in the “Her Shatiya” naval area, with the participation of about 100 amateur divers who met to revive one of the oldest sports related to Bahrain’s naval history and the ancient national heritage.
The establishment of this half comes as an extension of the generous care that the season enjoys by His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty for Humanitarian Acts and Youth Affairs and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and with direct support from His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports New generations.
Prior to the start of the event, the organizing committee held a coordination meeting with all the participants on Thursday evening, during which the requirements of the competition and the criteria for calculating the results were explained, in addition to the strict emphasis on security and safety instructions that are a top priority, due to the nature of the competition that depends on diving using modern equipment in the depths of the sea to extract oysters.
The first ten contestants win the first ten contestants who can collect the heaviest amount of pearls from inside the shells that are later sorted and weighing accurately under the supervision of a specialized jury (Al -Tawawish), in a scene that revives the old diving rituals, which once formed the source of the ancestral livelihood and a pillar of national identity.
The Nasser bin Hamad season for marine heritage sports is a unique annual platform concerned with the revival of the authentic Bahrain maritime traditions, as it comes organized by the Bahraini Committee for People’s Heritage Sports with the aim of providing competitive and educational programs targeting young and young, and seeks to link them with their cultural roots and establish values related to the national heritage.
Since its inception, the season has a wide turnout from different segments of society, and today is one of the most prominent heritage activities in the Kingdom, in exchange for its rich content that combines entertainment and knowledge and enhances the spirit of belonging and authentic Bahraini identity.
In addition to the Al -Hir competition, the Nasser bin Hamad season for marine heritage sports includes a number of events, including popular rowing races, open water swimming competition and fishing competition (Al -Hadqat), in addition to a new competition in the name of Al -Naham held inside the studios of the Ministry of Information.
